SCVMM 2016 Installation Step by Step
Dear Friends, today I am going to show you how to install system center virtual machine manager to manage your Microsoft infrastructure. The System Center 2016 is the latest available SCVMM product available to download at present. So I have installed the same to manage the environment.
If you would like to know what are the new features of the SCVMM 2016 please click this article.
Here goes the installation process.
In the first step we need to download the Windows Assessment and Deployment kit and need to select few components and install them which is a prerequisite for the SCVMM installation, once downloaded you need to run the tool. In case you don’t download this tool you will see an error later, which I have captured in my post here.
Please find the download link to download the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK)
In the first screen you will find the following:
Once you click next you will find the following screen
I have selected the following server roles which will be used during the installation process.
The next step is to go to your dsa.msc and create few service accounts as you can see below.
Once I have created that I have decided to use the SQL server 2014 backend instance which I have created earlier. I have downloaded the setup files from internet.
This setup will create a folder and unzip all the installation media in a particular drive you will choose in your server. Once you download and run it you will find the following screen.
Once I have clicked on next I have seen the following screen.
We have to choose the location where we are going to SCVMM folder.
The below screen will look like this.
It will finally unzip the installation files
After this I need to click on setup and you can see the following screen.
Please click on the install button as shown above.
The installation will start and you will see the following screen. I have to install the VMM Management Server.
The next step is to type a user name.
Please accept the license agreement and proceed further.
The next screen will take you the usage and connectivity data.
This screen will take you to the product update if available any
Please provide the installation path. The one showing in the below image is the default installation path.
This is the screen which I have mentioned in the start of this post where it’s indicating a problem since I have
To overcome this error I have installed the WADK earlier.
In the next step we need to provide the product registration details and move forward
Now it complains about another missing pre requisite which is the SQL Server Command Line Utilities.
I have downloaded the same from this below URL
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36433
Once I downloaded the same I have to go ahead and install it.
You can find the following screen
It complains about the ODBC driver missing for the SQL server so I have to download the ODBC driver and install it first.
I have decided to download the ODBC driver as you can see below.
The next step is to install the ODBC drivers for the SQL server and you can see the following steps to install the driver step by step
Since I have installed the ODBC driver for the SQL server I have decided to move ahead with the installation of Command Line Utilities 11 for the SQL Server
The installation of the command line utilities for SQL server has been completed however there is another prerequisite missing as you can see here.
In the next step it has complained about the memory requirement. I have to increase the memory of the computer. The minimum requirement is 4 GB RAM.
After the installation of additional RAM on the VM I can able to move forward with my installation.
The next step is the database configuration.
We have decided to configure a new Database for our VMM installation.
I have given the SQL server instance name.
In the next step you can see the service account credential which I have used for the installation.
Before making any progress I wanted to make sure if the SQL server listening port is open so I have ran the telnet command
Telnet is successful which a good sign, I can move forward with the installation.
Now I can see the below screen
In the next step I need to go to ADSI Edit and need to create a new CN for VMM Server. As you can see below.
The above CN will be used for storing the keys in the Active Directory. I have to mention this Key below.
The next step is very important where we need to mention the ports for communication. Please note that all these ports needed to be open in the firewall.
In the next step I need to give a name of the share for the Libraray
The next screen will show you the installation summary.
Now I have clicked on install and it’s showing the following screen where it’s showing the progress as you can see below.
Now you can see the setup has completed successfully.
It’s great news that I able to install the SCVMM server. In the below screen I can go to the SQL server and confirm that the SCVMM database has been created and populated.
I hope you will like this post, we will do more with SCVMM in my future posts.
